Okkervil Opened for The New Pornographers, But It Should Have Been The Other Way Around

How many concerts have you seen where the opening band blows the headliner away? I can't think of too many, but last night it seems to me that Okkervil River opening up for the New Pornographers was one. It was a good example of a smaller band performing with enthusiasm to get new listeners to buy their records and an example of a band whose success has plateaued and don't really give a shit about playing their songs anymore. Will Sheff seemed like he wanted to be there. AC Newman looked like he wanted to be somewhere else.
Okkervil River opened with The Presidents Dead and played A Stone, The Latest Toughs, John Allyn Smith Sails, A Girl In Port, and they closed with Westfall. They played other songs but they escape me at the moment.
This was the second time we saw the New Pornographers and the sets were similar...their energy was not. I do have to say though, a highlight of the entire show was when Will Sheff came out and sang Dan Bejar's part on Myriad Harbor. Pretty entertaining.
The Pageant makes strong whiskey and cokes.
