Biography
Ashley Jane Miller, age 29, formerly a resident of Evansville and Newburgh, died in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, November 29, 2007 in Navajo County, Arizona. At the time of her death, Ashley was living in Fountain Hills, Arizona, and was completing her senior year of law school at Arizona State University in Tempe.
Ashley was a 1996 graduate of Memorial High school in Evansville where she played varsity soccer. In 1999 she graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington with a degree in child development. Ashley was an advocate of the Montessori Method of education. She was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana University basketball.
Ashley leaves behind her precious and special daughter, Layla Jane Fogleman, age 6 and 1/2, and Layla's father, Timothy Bryan Fogleman, who was Ashley's best friend.
In addition, Ashley is also survived by her loving mother, Candy Miller, who was Ashley's closest confidante, and by her father, David V. Miller, both of Newburgh, Layla's paternal grandmother, Barbara Fogleman of Noblesville, Indiana, and by her brothers, Eric D. Miller and his wife, Sara, of Evansville, Dr. Brant Sanders of Evansville, Andrew F. Miller and his wife, Gretchen, of Noblesville, Indiana, Layne V. Miller of Newburgh, and by her sister, Sage D. Miller of Newburgh. Also surviving are Ashley's grandfather, Vincent A. Miller of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Ashley's great-aunt, Josephine Oertwig of Evansville. Surviving aunts and uncles include Cathy and Michael Thieneman, Joseph and Linda Miller, and Mark and Leslie Miller, all of St. Joseph, Michigan, and Susan and Bill Warran of Horn Lake, Mississippi, as well as nieces and nephews: Will, Griffin and Blake Sanders, Mia and Mason Miller, and Jack, Emme and Cooper Miller. Ashley had friends throughout the United States.
At the time of her death, Ashley was engaged to be married to Michael Bashaw of Fountain Hills, Arizona.
Ashley's life and primary love was centered upon her daughter, Layla, who carries forward Ashley's beautiful freedom of spirit, exuberance for life and Ashley's unconditional love for her family and friends.
There will be a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2007, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 704 First Avenue, officiated by Father Ted Tempel. A memorial visitation for Ashley will be held on Tuesday, December 4, at Alexander East Chapel from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until service time. There will be no burial service. A memorial fund dedicated to Ashley's memory into which contributions may be made for the benefit of Layla Jane Fogleman has been established at Old National Bank, Evansville, Indiana.
